Our Commitment to Sustainable Seafood
At Nautika Dive Alor, we are committed to sustainability, marine conservation, and ethical seafood consumption. As part of our responsible dining philosophy, we only serve responsibly sourced seafood and do not offer certain species due to concerns about overfishing, environmental impact, or ethical considerations. We encourage guests to make informed choices that support healthy oceans and thriving marine life.
Seafood We Do Not Serve:
Sea Turtles (All Species) – Endangered due to habitat loss, poaching, and fishing bycatch. They play a vital role in maintaining marine ecosystems. Harvesting sea turtles and their eggs is illegal in many countries.
Cuttlefish – Highly intelligent creatures with complex communication skills. Many populations are overfished, and certain fishing methods damage marine habitats. Their short lifespan and vulnerable breeding cycles make them easily overexploited.
Sharks (All Species) – Many shark species are critically endangered due to overfishing and the shark fin trade. As apex predators, they maintain balance in marine ecosystems. Shark meat often contains high mercury levels.
Rays & Skates (All Species) – Many species, including manta rays, are vulnerable or endangered. They are frequently caught as bycatch in unsustainable fishing practices. Manta rays contribute significantly to local economies through ecotourism.
Groupers (Certain Large Species, e.g., Napoleon Wrasse, Giant Grouper) – Large groupers are slow-growing and long-lived, making them highly susceptible to overfishing. The Napoleon Wrasse is critically endangered and protected in many areas.
Parrotfish – Essential for coral reef health as they graze on algae, preventing coral overgrowth. Overfishing leads to coral reef decline and habitat loss. Their slow reproduction rates make them vulnerable to depletion.
Tuna (Certain Species, e.g., Bluefin Tuna, Bigeye Tuna) – Bluefin tuna is critically endangered due to high demand, especially in sushi markets. Bigeye tuna is often caught using unsustainable longline fishing, leading to high bycatch rates. We only consider responsibly sourced tuna.
Lobster – Many populations are overexploited, especially in areas with weak regulations. Deep-sea lobsters have slow growth rates, making them particularly vulnerable to overfishing. Only sustainably harvested lobster is considered for our menu.
Octopus – Exceptionally intelligent creatures capable of problem-solving. Octopus farming raises ethical concerns about intensive aquaculture. Wild-caught octopus is often sourced from unsustainable fisheries.
